A piece of home

On Friday night my mom arrived from Virginia to spend the weekend with us.  Unfortunately, her flight was about four hours late due to thunderstorms, but she made it and that is all that really matters.  And as usual, we crammed a whole lot of eating and good times into two short days.  I am telling you, eating is part of my calling. It is what I do best.  Especially pregnant.  Things just taste better when you're pregnant.  At least that has been my experience.  Anyway.  The agenda for the weekend was eating, shopping, eating, going to church, eating, more shopping and then -you guessed it- more eating.  It was awesome!!

We started off our eating bonanza at a grilled cheese restaurant called 'Chedd's'.  That's right, I said grilled cheese restaurant.  They had 30 different types of Wisconsin cheeses to choose from and it was glorious.  I chose to make my own and opted for Munester with pickles and tomatoes.

Isn't she a beaut?
We're all so happy when we know yummy food is on the way!

After the glory that is Chedd's.  My mom & I went shopping while Kyle went home to do more manly things- like read the 'Economist' and take a nap. The shopping was a success and I now have clothing to help cover my ever growing baby bump.

For dinner we ate Mexican- big surprise.  But always a crowd pleaser.  I may have eaten enough chips and salsa to feed a family of five. But I am blaming that on my newfound love of all things tomato based.  This week I have eaten numerous tomato and mayo sandwiches as well as speghetti o's and just plain bowls of chopped up tomatoes.  Vegas- you are killing me!

Sunday, we went to church and then to a cute little bakery that is close to my work.  My mom is a lover of pie ( I am blaming this on her) so we had to get a few different options to try.
Strawberry- Rhubarb
Apple
Cheese Brioche

As you can see, we got a bit carried away.  To top off our wonderful food-fest we decided to take my mom to the mecca of all grocery stores.  Whole Foods.  She had never been to Whole Foods and was excited to see one.  However, she had no idea the treat she was in for. Whole Foods is like the J.Crew of grocery stores.  And in case you didn't know this about the Sale family- we heart J. Crew. A lot.  Possibly a sinful amount.  I think this photo sums up into words what my mom thought of Whole Foods...

She just looks beside herself she's so happy.  Who can blame her?  Whole Foods is like an amusement park for adults.

Pretty much it was an awesome weekend and we were sad to see her go!

Funny Blog Post

I'm not sure if I mentioned earlier that I have a pregnancy buddy.  She is one of my good friends from college and fortunately for me- she lives in Austin.  We've been spending a lot of time with her & her husband Ryan since we moved here and have become "How I Met Your Mother" TV buddies.  Somewhat to my surprise ( I had my suspicions) when I told Hilary that I was pregnant she said "When is your due date?".  When I replied "November 2nd" she said "Oh good, mine is November 11th".  Exciting stuff. Maybe not for you, but for me.  All that lead in was just to tell you that she writes a very entertaining blog and today's post is her funniest yet (in my humbly pregnant opinion). If you want a good chuckle- check it out here

Photography Class- part deux

Well, my photography class has finally come to an end. And I say finally, not because I didn't like it but, because 16 Saturday afternoons is a lot of Saturday afternoons to give up and I am excited to have my Saturdays back! However, I did really enjoy my class and feel like I learned a lot.  I can now confidently shoot in manual mode in a variety of different lightings and I am comfortable with doing editing in Adobe Lightroom as well.  All in all, it was a success.  I am planning on spending the summer and fall practicing my skills on Adobe Photoshop and then hopefully taking a Portrait Photography class in January after baby Vegas has arrived and I have emerged from the fog know as 'newborn'.

Here are a few of my photos from the last few months...

The Nursery- Part 1

Back before Kyle & I even knew we were pregnant, I had started compiling ideas for how I wanted our nursery to look.  Mostly, I read through people's blogs and stole other their ideas.  That's how I roll. Kyle & I decided to avoid an all out panic sometime around October that we would tackle the nursery slow and steady and hopefully have it done well in advance. That is also how I roll.  Which as a side note I have recently learned at church is my idol- control.  But that is another issue and another blog post.

So, our first nursery project was paint.  We want the room to be fairly gender neutral, so we decided to paint it in subtle tones of tan and white.  The room was actually already tan, so all we had to do was add the white.  I got my idea from one of my favorite blogs 'Young House Love'.  Check out this post to see what we were copying.

Kyle & I spent hours (I wish I was exaggerating) taping off the room.  I'm not sure why I thought it wouldn't be that hard to paint stripes on a wall. But I was sorely mistaken.  After about a week of taping for a few hours each night.  We were finally done.  This is of course when the tape started falling off the walls that we had taped earlier. So then we had to re-tape.  But finally all the taping was done and Kyle was able to paint.

Here's the room now:

Next up on our project list- paint the crib.  I really like the idea of having a fairly neutrally colored nursery with a painted crib and white bedding.  What color we paint the crib is a different story.  We're going to wait until we know if little Vegas is a boy or a girl to decide that, so only about 5 weeks until we can start our next project.

Deac's Texas B'day

Today is our sweet Deacon's 5th birthday! It's hard to believe that it has been five years since we went and picked him up from the breeder.  Poor kid has been through alot with us since then.  He's had to suffer through losing his status as an 'only child' and endure the multi-flight trip overseas to his temporary home in Edinburgh.  Not to mention all the dressing up and forcing him to dance around the house with Kyle.  Have I shared too much?  You may not want to be our friends anymore...

He's been there with us through most of our marriage and we really love him. Which is why we made him dress up in this awesome hat and look 'Texas' for his birthday.  I'm sure he counts his lucky stars every day that he ended up with us yawhoos. Kyle & I are dorks and even sang happy b'day to him this morning!   I know, I know- we won't do this when we have our real child. But, you may be surprised.  I have always had a special place in my heart for animals and dressing things up (case and point- the flamingo currently in our front yard).

Vegas baby!

The Sale family is getting ready to go from just the two of us to the three of us!  Kyle & I are very excited to share that we’re having a baby! My official due date is November 2nd- but I am hoping for my much desired Halloween baby! So fingers crossed!!

Until we know if baby Sale will be a baby girl or a baby boy we have lovingly named the fetus ‘Vegas’.  Vegas (we’ve decided to refer to the fetus as her instead of it) and her mommy (that’s me- weird!!) are doing well.  Since I'm through the first trimester, the nausea and extreme fatigue seem to be diminishing. Now we move on the fun stuff- baby belly! We’ll keep you posted with pictures and updates when we have things to share.

Till then!
