Our little pumpkin is turning one!

Photo of the week
This past weekend we celebrated our sweet little Isla turning one! Her actual birthday is tomorrow but we had her party on Sunday. Kyle's mom, Sally, came into town to celebrate with us as well. It was a crazy busy weekend getting ready for the party, but it was a lot of fun and went great! I still am in shock that Isla is already one year old.

Like a lot of other mom's in the month of October, I gave it my best shot to get a cute pumpkin patch picture.  It did not really work out the way I had hoped but that is what I expected with two small children with lots of energy!

they are both looking forward at least...
this is real life people :)

Knox & Blythe
the Birthday Girl
We went to a pumpkin patch at a local church with Sally to pick up some pumpkins for the party. Knox, my little reader, just sat down for story time with another preschool class that happened to be there at the same time we were. Ha! That kid loves books!

We also did a Target run to get ready for the party and Knox came home with quite a few goodies since Nana was in town. His new favorite activity is playing baseball in the backyard. He's actually pretty good too!

Thanks to lots of help from Kyle & Sally- Isla's party was a hit! I am SOO glad it's over though and we can just relax and enjoy her actual birthday tomorrow. Knox's birthday is coming up in 2 weeks but his party is not going to require hardly any preparation at all so I am thankful for that! Pretty soon I will have a one year old and a three year old. Wow!

Happy Halloween!

Pumpkin Patch

Photo of the Week
Well, it is getting close to my favorite holiday! But even more than actual Halloween I just love all the activities that go along with Halloween. This weekend was the one I look forward to most- our trip to the pumpkin patch.  Knox is just getting to be old enough that he really understands when you tell him he is going somewhere. We talked to him about the pumpkin patch on Friday and he woke up on Saturday morning asking when we were leaving- he was ready!

For the past two years we have gone to a patch in Manor, but this year we decided to try out a new one.   It is in Marble Falls, TX a little over an hour from our house. We had been there before to pick strawberries but never for their pumpkin festival.  It was awesome! They had tons of things for the kids to do and Knox had a blast.  We only had a small window (about 2 hours) before we needed to get back on the road for nap time. So we let Knox do the candy corn maze, the jumping pit and the hayride.  Isla was just along for the ride.  She has been difficult lately so she didn't have the greatest day but we all made it through without too many tears.  Isla has just switched to one nap and is in the process of learning how to walk so my theory is that all these transitions are making her rather cranky.  Let's hope she's in a good mood for her birthday party on Sunday!

This weekend is Isla's big first birthday party. Kyle's mom will be in town to help us celebrate and we're excited! I'll post a bunch of pictures next week.

getting outside

Photo of the week
Texas does not follow the natural progression of summer into fall that most other states follow. No, Texas goes from a state of constant inferno (also known as Summer) to a state of warmly pleasant weather (also known as Fall). So with the temperatures in the low-90s this week we spent a lot of time outside.

Isla is at an age now where she can occupy herself and she is much more content because of her increased mobility.  Which just means that I get to sit back and relax a little more often than I used to.  This week we went on a picnic at a nearby park and also spent a lot of time in the driveway playing.

Our nice picnic before Knox got attacked by fire ants...
Isla is starting to walk!

you can't see them all but she now has 6 teeth!

We are planning on heading to Sweet Berry Farms next weekend for their pumpkin patch, so I should have some cute pictures of the kids in their costumes from that!

Veedubs and Halloween...

Picture of the week
Well, my favorite month as finally arrived. And this year we have a birthday to celebrate in addition to Halloween! I have been waiting a long time for my Halloween baby and I am considering Halloween's Eve to be close enough for me.  Isla has been sporting all of her Halloween outfits and pajamas this week and I have been happily planning her 1st Halloween birthday party.  It is sort of like 7th Heaven over here for me.  The only thing that could make it better was if I had endless amounts of money to spend on her party :)

This weekend was one of the annual VW shows that we like to attend.  We try to keep our Volkswagen craziness down to only a few shows a year, but now that we have two Volkswagens and not just the one there may be no more hiding our crazy as Miranda Lambert likes to say... Before we had kids I remember thinking about what their childhood would be like and the things they would grow up remembering us doing together as a family.  Funny how I didn't picture that involving camping in a 40 year old bus and going to car shows.  It could be worse, I'm sure.

Knox was hyped out of his mind at the VW meet-up on Saturday night
The show we attended is called the VW Harvest Show and it goes on all weekend long. On Saturday night there is a cruise with all the old cars and then everyone meets up at Top Notch burger to hang out and watch a movie on the projector.  We didn't stick around for the movie, but it was fun to get a burger and let Knox run around and ogle the cars.

Today was the actual car show and we rallied both of our VWs up to Cedar Park to walk around and see all the cars for a few hours in between naps.

Isla's 1st VW show, she's parked between Remie & Gloria

This is one of the actual Herbie's from the Disney movie
Aside from spending our weekend looking at VWs, we have also been getting ready for Halloween.  My mom is quite the seamstress and she made Isla a cute little candy corn romper.  This is the best picture I have of her wearing it.  This picture is also amazing because if you notice the red, wooden toy pot in Isla's hand and the look on Knox's face you may surmise correctly that she just bashed him over the head with a pot.  I don't see any remorse on her face either...Meanwhile I was taking the picture and trying not to let Knox see me laughing.  Poor kid just can't take any amount of pain.  He will not be an Olympic Athlete so we can go ahead and stop worrying about that!

Riding two deep in the bus.  Isla is obsessed with her bunny now...
Football Sunday- we got some Bears fans in the house!
That's what's been going on at the Sale's house!
